Long Time, No Blog

Well, I see from the old calendar on the wall that it's been 3 weeks since the last time you've been able to gather around the old monitor, screen or hand-held and had the opportunity to read a posting by us.  SHAME ON YOU! :-)

When we last met we had just decided to purchase a 2 bedroom Port Home in the 55+ community of Retama Village in Mission, Texas.  Having made that decision we headed for Port Lavaca, Texas to take part in our first Sojourn of the year.

For those of you who would like to know more about sojourning here is the link you can read up on the church of Christ Mission Program of which Irene and I are members:

Origins of the Sojourner Mission

The sojourn we were on at Port Lavaca was a "spiritual" sojourn.  This means that we were doing SOMETHING to help the local church grow - as individuals or numerically by persuading non-members to believe in Jesus as their savior and obey the Gospel.

We knocked doors from the 17th-20th of March, inviting people to study the Bible with us and to attend a ladies day (which Irene taught) on Saturday the 22nd.  Then on Sunday the 23rd-Wednesday the 26th four of the Sojourners men preached a revival meeting.

It was an excellent Sojourn.  It was the first one I have ever been team leader on and I couldn't have had too much better a team:  Larry Shelton was co-team leader and his wife Linda; Dudley and Pat Cash; Nick and Eva Eubanks; Kenneth and Jo Jones; John and Mary Townley and David Johnson.

The congregation was a excellent one also.  It was the 3rd sojourn so they "knew what they were doing."  There were multiple local people that went out door-knocking with us.

During the sojourn their were 3 individuals baptized into Christ and 2 members that came confessing shortcomings in the Christian lives and asking for the prayers of their Christian family for strength to become better servants of Jesus.  Numerous others had the saving gospel of Christ declared to them.  We pray the word will one day convict their hearts.

If the Port Lavaca church has another sojourn - I would heartily recommend you go if you are a sojourner reading this.
